I’m honored to be selected as a resident artist this July at Elsewhere Studios in Paonia, Colorado. My multimedia storytelling project will explore human connection, values, identity, and history of food in the North Fork Valley. This region on the Western Slope of Colorado has a rich farming and agricultural history. Today it has become a vibrant community passionate for local organic foods, and sustainable methods of production. My project will feature some of the many inspiring individuals and families that are contributing to this movement. (farmers, ranchers, fruit growers, wine makers, cheese makers and bakers) More details below!

Each participant in my project will receive a dish inspired by the meal we share.
For a week, I will spend time with a different individual or family at their farm, ranch and/or home each day starting July 15. I'll produce seven video portraits/vignettes. I will capture them at work, film their environment, and will interview each about how food, their work, and the valley fosters their identity and values, family history, and traditions. Then we will cook a meal together that’s significant to them, using food they grow, raise or make; a meal that reflects their life and work in the valley, or their culture and family history, etc... I'll record them sharing a story about this meal, and document the steps producing a digital recipe. I’ll make music for the videos. I’ll make a ceramic piece for each participant as a thank you gift (a dish inspired by the meal/story). I’ll coordinate a potluck in the Fall or Winter to bring together all participants and will return to Paonia to share the film, give the ceramic gifts, and enjoy an evening of food and conversation.
This project will draw upon my background in photography, video, audio interviews, music and ceramics. Although most of my education, teaching and professional work has been in photography and video, I have an equal passion for music and ceramics. I always want to combine them somehow and this project will give me that opportunity.
